Every household has at least one of these—but toxic manufacturing processes could be lowering your children’s grades and putting their health at risk.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES, August 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Every child sleeps on a mattress. But not all mattresses are created equal. Most are made with toxic chemicals, and in some cases manufactured in foreign sweatshops with inadequate oversight.
And if that mattress exposes your child to those toxic chemicals, the risks not only include a range of avoidable illnesses from asthma to skin rashes and even to cancer but could also affect brain health.* Could your child’s grades improve with a safer mattress?
“No child should lose brain function or get sick from their bedding. When there are documented cases of mattress outgassing causing severe health issues, it only makes sense to switch to a safe, organic mattress,” said Marlon Pando, MBA, owner of White Lotus Home a pioneer in natural organic bedding founded in 1981.
White Lotus makes mattresses, pillows, bedding, furniture, and home décor by hand, in the USA, from natural organic materials such as wool, cotton, kapok, and even buckwheat hulls. White Lotus products are available at the company’s flagship store, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 745 Joyce Kilmer Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 09801, at selected quality bedding retailers around the country, and online with no-charge shipping anywhere in the US.

How to Choose a Natural Pillow...The best inner fill for your needs would depend on your comfort level. Do you enjoy a firm, dense pillow, or something fluffy and giving? Do you look for a pillow with a low profile? Do you like the feel of a traditional pillow, or are you open to organic buckwheat? Each fiber has its own "personality", and our Organic Bedding Professionals are here to help you find your best match.
Let's find a match...
Our Kapok pillows are our number-one best-seller! Due to the luxurious feel of the fiber, these universally beloved pillows work well for a wide range of individuals, from those who prefer something soft and giving to those who need some support from their sleep surface.
Kapok is a vegan, sustainable fiber from the ceiba tree that offers a similar feel to down. Unlike feathers and down, however, Kapok has many hypoallergenic properties and ethically sourced. In our experience, many individuals with chemical sensitivities, as well as those with physical challenges, do well with Kapok pillows.
Our Organic Cotton pillows offer a dense, even surface. Cotton pillows are breathable and work well for those who prefer a firm-yet-supportive feel.
Our Wool Pillows are wonderful for those who want an even surface like cotton but the fluffiness of kapok. Those with allergies are quick to pick wool, as the fiber itself is naturally dust-mite resistant. Our pure, virgin wool is soft, resilient, and naturally regulates body temperature.
Do note that due to the nature of the fiber, wool may compress with time. Therefore, we strongly encourage our customers to add a zipper to their wool pillow, as this can extend the lifespan of the product.
Our Organic Buckwheat and Buckwool pillows utilize the three-cornered hull of the buckwheat seed in a pillow that is firm yet supportive. The hulls allows air to flow through the pillow, keeping your head cool and dry.
The beanbag-like fill contours to the head and neck, providing excellent support. While certainly a different "feel" from conventionally fluffy pillows, many of our customers with neck and back issues have found success with our Buckwheat and Buckwool pillows!
Our Shredded Latex pillows are temperature-neutral, dust mite resistant, and naturally antimicrobial. Our natural Dunlop latex provides ample neck and head support without causing overheating. Unlike many other fibers, the latex holds its shape for many years without harboring allergens.
Our Evergreen Foam pillows offer the firm, even feel of conventional memory-foam pillows without the toxic chemicals. Comprised solely of soy and castor bean oil and other vegetable components, Evergreen Foam does not off-gas, providing peace of mind while you rest.
Change it up!
All of our pillows are offered with or without a zipper. If you are unsure of which firmness to purchase, we recommend you select pillow witha zipper. The zipper allows you to adjust the inner fibers to reach your own personal comfort level, as you can add or remove filling to your liking.
Many pillows, such as cotton and wool, may compress over time: purchasing a pillow with a zipper allows you to add fibers back over time to maintain your preferred level of comfort. Others, such as kapok, may absorb the healthy oils from your face and hair, and may benefit from the occasional manual readjustment. Consider it insurance for your bedding!
People who have migrated to a firm mattress can usually offer a long list of reasons for doing so. But chiropractors, doctors and other medical professionals also tout the benefits of spending seven or eight hours a night resting on a firm mattress. These include:
Superior comfort. You can never have too much support, but you can always have too little support. This is especially true for older people and those with back, neck or joint problems.
Proper alignment of the spine. Proper posture matters, even during sleep. If your backbone is all out of whack for eight hours, it can be hard to function normally the next day. A firm mattress does a better job of keeping nicely aligned so you can get through the day without a lot of stress or strain.
Deeper rest. The human body can’t fully rest on a soft or sagging mattress, because it’s always trying to compensate for the unorthodox positions. And it’s not just the spine that requires excellent posture. Even your limbs, neck and other body parts need a comfy, cozy retreat for a great night’s sleep.
Proper weight distribution. Not enough support means that your body will eventually sag in one direction, which is a leading cause of misalignment in joints and muscles.
Ongoing health benefits. There’s an axiom in the sleep industry that “proper rest = proper health.” During sleep, your body does a hundred different things to repair and rejuvenate. Cells are restored. Human growth hormone gets activated. Insulin levels are reduced. Without a firm mattress to give deep rest, you’re missing out on these important health benefits every night.
Each unique White Lotus Home Mattress is crafted one at a time with you in mind.
Not only do we offer free local delivery, we also pick up our fibers from our local resources.
We are here for you 7 days a week to discuss your specific needs and comfort level. We will walk you through the process to choosing the best feeling pillows to picking a mattress that meets the feel that you desire.

White Lotus Home - US Manufacturers of Organic Cotton and Natural Mattresses, Pillows and Bedding
HIGHLAND PARK, NJ – An increasing number of consumers are concerned about indoor air quality and toxic chemicals in mattress foams, glues, and fire retardant substances.
Conventional mattresses typically contain petrochemicals, fire retardants, plastics or vinyl. This chemical cocktail is linked to a host of health maladies, such as allergies and respiratory problems. This is particularly so with crib mattresses.
Here are 10 reasons why you should sleep on an organic cotton filled mattress:
Organic mattresses are made with materials found in nature, resources that encourage sustainable farming throughout the world: cotton grown without pesticides and wool from sheep raised on chemical free farms.
Standard industry mattresses are made from man-made materials, most commonly derived from petrochemicals.
Petrochemicals are derived from oil.
Oil contains toxins.
Oil is not a renewable resource.
Oil is highly flammable.
Studies have raised concerns about the long-term health effects petrochemical bedding materials may have on humans.
If you sleep on a memory foam mattress, you're spending a third of your life sleeping on an oil-based product.
All mattresses sold in the U.S. have to meet the U.S. Fire Code burn test. Mattresses need to be treated so they don't ignite. However, the chemicals used to treat mattresses to make them flame proof are highly suspect.
Our skin absorbs toxins, our lungs breathe in airborne vapors. Do you really trust the mattress industry when they tell you it's safe to sleep on their materials?
White Lotus Home, a manufacturer of natural and organic cotton mattresses, bedding and pillows, handcrafts in the USA, a GOTS and USDA certified organic cotton filled mattress This mattress is only wrapped with a natural layer of pure wool, sourced in the USA, to provide the fire retardant qualities your mattress requires. Do you prefer no wool in your mattress? No problem, just supply a prescription from your primary care physician, stating you require a chemical free mattress and this mattress can be handcrafted for you with no wool wrapping. Do you prefer a firm mattress? Then the Organic Cotton and Wool Boulder Mattress may be your choice. It is handcrafted with extra layers of certified organic cotton and twice as many tuftings in comparison to White Lotus Homes’ standard mattresses to provide a firmer, supportive surface. You also have the option of no wool, by providing your doctor's note. This firm mattress is popular for those that have slept on mattresses while living in Japan and India. Visit their online store for links to videos on how they manufacture in the USA.

White Lotus Home is dedicated to educating consumers about indoor air quality and toxic chemicals in mattress foams, glues, and fire retardant substances. Our fabrication plant in Highland Park, N.J., supplies White Lotus stores in New Jersey, as well as a network of 100 online resellers, including Amazon.com, and retail outlets in the U.S. and Canada. White Lotus believes that quality and fair value are more important than low prices and a quick profit. We oppose the exploitation of the planet and its inhabitants. Above all, our people, products and business practices are socially, politically and environmentally responsible.
The New Year has come and gone, and I find myself reflecting on the whirlwind of changes we saw in the past 12 months. I am humbled and grateful to announce that 2016 was the most successful year on record for White Lotus Home! The expansion we have witnessed would not be possible without the wonderful community of customers who have supported our family-run business since 1981. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to keep America green and growing!
Reflecting on 35 Years of Growth 12 years ago, some of my colleagues taught that I was crazy for buying this company. Why would a “suit-and-tie” MBA want to leave his position in New York City to work in a small handcrafting facility in New Jersey? While the economy was decent, many factories were struggling as jobs shifted overseas. At the time, I felt the USA did not have much of a “green” lead: companies like Whole Foods represented niche markets and hybrid cars were a mystery to most consumers.
Being a native of Sullana --- Peru’s important cotton growing and farming area --- I knew first-hand what going green was all about. I knew that my older brother’s shoes would eventually become mine. I knew the importance of using all possible resources so that hardly anything was considered scrap or waste. My dad was an old-school fisherman who taught me the importance of working hard for your family and to support your local community. Since emigrating to Brooklyn in 1983, my family started a business manufacturing and selling handcrafted neckties. We quickly understood what it meant to create quality goods, what work ethics and deep appreciation for sustainable craftsmanship was all about. So when I took over White Lotus Home in 2005, I had a vision of the future: to lead the way in green, small-scale, American-made goods.
Since then, I have personally witnessed a growing “green” trend in most sectors, and I’m not alone. Organic food is hip, renewable energy is in demand, and more customers are looking to introduce natural, minimally processed goods in their lives in an effort to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals. I am seeing more than ever a desire for consumers to learn about the entire life cycle of products. People want to know where their things come from --- they want transparency and to feel good about their purchases. We recognize that buying a White Lotus Home pillow or mattress is a lifestyle choice. While the market for organic bedding is still narrow, it’s part of a rapidly-growing environment.
We at White Lotus Home hope to lead this movement. The world has changed since our founding in 1981, but our dedication to the care of our customers, our employees and our planet remains as strong as ever. And even though 2016 showed a nation divided politically, I truly feel that the boom of sales within the past year represents something that unifies us all: a desire to bolster American workers and products.
All of our manufacturing takes place in New Jersey, supporting local workers and the community’s economy. We are a proud member of the Made in America Movement, and we utilize domestic fibers and fabrics whenever possible. For example, our Organic Buckwheat and virgin wool each come from California, while our Organic Cotton is sourced from Texas. The nature of our production means a high demand for raw, minimally processed materials, so we feel good about giving so much business to American workers, from the farmers that grow our cotton to those that garnet the fibers. We believe that our hands-on production, highly trained artisans, and tight supervision of our natural materials contribute to a final product that makes a positive impact on the world around us.
We know you care about what you bring in your home. That’s why we are proud to produce bedding with the highest quality nature can offer. That’s why we continue to manufacture here in New Jersey, even if it would be less expensive to move our operations overseas. As our company continues to evolve, we appreciate each of our customers who, time and time again, choose our handcrafted products for your own homes or to refer to friends and family. Thank you.

Changing With the Times When I first took over White Lotus Home, the split between online and in-store retail was half and half. Our business is now up to 90% online, with our Wholesale, Drop Shipping and Private Label partners accounting for over 20% of total sales. The move away from brick-and-mortar stores meant shifting our attention away from our Brooklyn and Miami stores, which closed in early 2016, putting an even greater focus on our flagship location and fabrication plant in Highland Park, New Jersey. From here, we oversee all White Lotus Home e-commerce sales and supply a network of over 100 online resellers and physical retailers throughout the United States and Canada. We also handcraft displays of our products for local clients. My experience shows that, in our industry, the ability to try out a mattress is still key, so we are once again considering expanding to other local cities.
So what else should you expect from White Lotus Home in 2017? We are always looking for ways to improve. While our methods and materials are traditional, our approach is nothing but! As CEO, my goals for White Lotus Home include better prices, a more personalized shopping experience, faster turn-around service, expanded product line, more intuitive website, and updated visual media. We are also in the process of cleaning up our product descriptions to make it easier than ever to navigate the world of natural bedding and find a product you’re sure to love.
Our Private Label Program represents the fastest-growing sector of our business, and I feel that a significant part of our future will be as a third-party, white-label manufacturer. I’ve really enjoyed the experience of working with clients to expand their existing product line or launch new products to their precise specifications. Because we work closely with our partners every step of the way – from start to finish – to turn their visions into reality.
As consumer demand rises for home furnishings that utilize sustainable materials and promote healthy air quality, White Lotus Home is perfectly poised to fill this need. We recently expanded our Designer Cooperative Program for interior designers, architects and builders working to achieve “green” accreditation from the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) or the US Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The option for organic emphasis in a design firm’s occupant-centered approach makes sense; aside from some specialized functions, people have special needs or share similar goals for Mother Earth. And because each piece of White Lotus Home bedding is crafted by hand almost exclusively to order, we have the flexibility to work with designers to create one-of-a-kind items that meet the unique specifications of their clients.
With Us, It’s Personal
As the President of White Lotus Home, I want to personally extend my appreciation to the loyal customers who, time and time again, choose our handcrafted products and refer to friends and family. Thank you for making White Lotus bedding a part of your home.

HIGHLAND PARK, NJ – White Lotus Home, a leading manufacturer and distributor of handmade organic bedding, announced activities marking the company’s 35th Anniversary Celebration. White Lotus Home, founded on Earth Day 1981, has always been based in New Jersey, where it manufactured all its USDA-Certified organic mattresses, pillows and bedding from pure wool, cotton and other natural products.

We’re proud to call New Jersey home. We’ve been part of the community from the start. That will never change.”
Earthfest, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 4 pm to 8 pm at Lotus Studio, an event space above the company’s showroom at 431 Raritan Ave, Highland Park, NJ. The diverse gathering of political leaders, community organizers, local small businesses, artisans and green grocers. Spread the word. Just talking about the environment with people who may not think about it that much is a good way to celebrate Earth Day. Talk to kids, co-workers, friends, neighbors and siblings about the environmental issues you care about most. Recycling? Energy conservation? Organic food choices? You get the idea.
Attend an Earth Day event. You’ll be introduced to new environmentally friendly products, eat locally grown food and chat with people who are making a difference.
Make a recycling plan. Know what you can and can’t recycle, and start separating out recyclable goods!
Cook a special Earth Day meal. Invite friends and family over for menu that uses locally produced vegetables, fruit and other produce. Consider a totally organic meal. If you still would like meat, look for locally produced, organic meat.
Fix a leaky faucets. Drip, drip, drip. You’ve put off repairing that leaky faucet project for some time now. Only 1 percent of Earth’s water is drinkable, and our supply is endangered. Use Earth Day as motivation to stop wasting water and fix those leaks.
Carpool. Taking cars off the road is one of the best ways to combat climate change. Find people in your neighborhood to share the daily commute, or find a ride-sharing partner online.
Skip the bottled water. Bottled water consumes huge amounts of fossil fuels to produce and transport, and most of those recyclable water bottles end up in landfills. Get yourself a refillable and permanent water bottle to carry with you. Save money, and the environment, too.
Organize a community cleanup. Get a group together to clean up your local park, schoolyard or beach.
Write your elected representatives. Reaching out to elected officials to voice your concerns about local environmental issues. Letter-writing is one of the best ways to have your voice heard.
Go carless! Walk, ride a bike or use public transportation. Leave the car at home. Plus, its great exercise!
Share Earth Day with children. Help children use recycled products to make art projects. Talk with them about Green living and the importance of preserving Mother Earth.
