Green Habits Can Start Early!

Enjoy these Fun, Eco-Friendly, Earth-Conscious Activities with Your Kiddos this Earth Month

Last summer, White Lotus Home ran one of the most well received newsletter series we’ve ever shared with our community called Do It 4 The Children

We received many emails and comments with such positive feedback from that campaign! And we also discovered that many folks here in our community are concerned about the world our children are growing up in – and the world we’ll be leaving to them.

WE HEAR YOU!

We are too, which is part of why we do what we do here at White Lotus Home. That’s why we can’t let this Earth Month pass by without including our kids. Perhaps one of the best things we can do for them is to teach them how to build green habits early!

So, without further ado, here are 6 fun ways you can instill consciousness and help young ones start building clean, green habits today:

Have an Eco-friendly Picnic

Did you know that single-use plastic is one of the biggest pollutants found in the ocean? As an exercise to explore how to avoid these plastics, try packing a lunch using only reusable containers, utensils, and napkins, then take it to a local park or outdoor area. Your young one will see how single-use plastics can be avoided, and as an added bonus, you can pick up litter in the park when you’re finished!

Take a Nature Walk or Hike

If you grow up in an urban area, it can be hard to imagine what Earth looks like untouched by humans. Take your young one to a natural outdoor space, like a forest, open meadow, or nature preserve, and talk to them about the importance of keeping these natural habitats safe from harm or destruction.

Visit a Local Farm or Farmers Market

As we mentioned in last week’s newsletter, many foods travel more than 1,000 miles before reaching your plate! That’s a lot of burnt fossil fuels! Take your young one to a local farm or a farmer's market to teach them about where their food comes from, and about the importance of buying locally grown food, or growing your own green goodness.

Go on a Litter Clean-up Mission

Take a garbage or grocery bag and go on a walk around your neighborhood to clean up any litter you see. You can talk about the importance of keeping our environment clean, and even make it a competition to see who can pick up the most trash!

Have a “Green” Story Time!

There are lots of children’s books out now that encourage conscious living and care about the environment. Some of our favorites are The Great Kapok TreeThe Rainforest Grew All Around, and The Earth Book. Snuggle up with your favorite eco-friendly pillow or bean bag chair and enjoy these green books with your kiddo!

Enjoy a "Green" Themed Movie Night

Choose a movie with an environmental message like Wall-E or The Lorax, and make some eco-friendly snacks to enjoy while you watch!

Remember, while Earth Day is a great opportunity to teach kids about the importance of protecting our planet and to help them establish eco-friendly habits, these activities can be done any day of the year!

Want to Try Before You Buy? Here’s how we can help.

We get it. A new mattress (and in some cases even a topper or pillow) can feel like a big investment, and with any investment often comes risk. You might be worried, thinking…

“What if I don’t like my new mattress?”

“What if it’s too soft or too firm?”

“I want a natural mattress, but I’m just not sure which one is right for me.”

We’ve got great news! There are a couple of ways you can get to know our products before you buy.

Organic vs Green Mattress Pros & Cons!

White Lotus Home

As a continuation of the Mattress Pros & Cons! We would appreciate it if you share your own personal Mattress experience below!

The Difference Between a Green & Organic White Lotus Home Mattress

All Dreamton & Vegan Mattresses are available in the Green Cotton or Organic Cotton options. Green Cotton is like buying fruits from a local farm while Organic Cotton is like buying fruits from Whole Foods Market and the likes.

What is GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton?

It is where cotton gets its degree, GOTS-certified organic cotton is held to the highest standards for health and sustainability. The core of most of our mattress options are hand made of endless fluffy layers of 100% pesticide-free US-grown GOTS Certified organic cotton raised sustainably, from our farms to your bed. Pesticide and insecticide-free, 100% natural and biodegradable, safe for sensitive skin, firm, yet soft, consumes 91% less water to grow than regular cotton, and protects farmers from pesticide exposure.

What is Green Cotton?

A more affordable option to our organic cotton, our conventionally grown Green Cotton is grown in the United States — it just isn’t certified organic. This more affordable material is slightly firmer than organic cotton, but the real beauty is in what it doesn’t have: NO dyes, NO perfumes & NO flame retardants. Grown by farmers right here in the US, Green Cotton is a fabulous cost-saving material that doesn’t put you in contact with harmful chemicals typically found in cotton.

Picky Millennials Might Be Saving the Planet

How Today’s Everything Buyers Are Forcing Brands to Shape Up (Or Ship Out)

NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES, March 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- There is nobody more discerning in modern history than the millennial buyer.

Call him what you will, but today’s late 20’s to early 40s aged buyer is deliberate bordering on the fickle, and it shows. Research shows that more than 63% of purchases made online are made based on user-generated content, ranging from Amazon reviews to unboxing videos on YouTube.

But as the social media takeover gets a new kind of foothold, consumers are exercising an even more potent buyer right: the right to take sales from the companies who don’t give a crap.

The Buyers With the Heart On Their Sleeve

Boomers and Gen-Xers may lament the studious tastes of their generational successors, but the fact is that these buyers are about to make up the majority of the nation’s economic might.

In 2018, millennials were projected to overtake Gen-Xers as the carriers for the single largest buying power in the United States, with an estimated $200 billion in collective annual spending.

But this generation spends its money unlike any other, and if there’s one thing the data shows, it’s that the economic constraints of the highest cost of living in decades hasn’t phased them — they’re living frugally, and still putting their money into purchases from ethical brands.

On average, most millennials spend their time and money in places and experiential purchases that are value aligned, meaning they’re willing (and able) to spend more money on things like organic produce, whereas they might save money by cohabitating with friends or family members.

In most cases, what’s most remarkable about this generation is that they’re 75% more likely to buy from a company whose values align with their own.

Millennials are putting their money where their mouth is, and their mouth is fed up with unsustainable business models that take endlessly from the environment.

Greenwashing Is a Bust

About five years ago, marketing terms like ‘natural’ and ‘green’ would fly enough to give companies a spike in interest for conscientious buyers. Over time however, shoppers opened up to the idea that they were being manipulated, and the game got blown wide open.

It shows tremendous restraint on the part of the buyers to hold out and pay more for ethical brands. Now things like MadeSafe and GOTS-certified are the new standards in eco-validation, and buyers are more aware all the time of ways to identify the frauds and the fakes in the business.

The label-reading generation who elicited so many eyerolls in its early days is in its renaissance of making changes, and the effects are rippling out to wider profit margins in value-aligned industries not seen since the dawn of inflation.

Brands are capitalizing on the response in the best way — by greening their businesses, and creating conscious enterprises that operate as a force for good.

It’s Supply and Demand, Baby

For small companies like White Lotus Home, an eco-friendly bedding supplier, the change is hardly a shocker.

“Today’s businesses have to adapt to the “organic” change and understand that Millennials, and even some Gen Xers, read labels and do their homework before shopping. They’re changing many industries,” says President Marlon Pando.

The homegrown New Jersey based company has just celebrated one of its latest in ethical manufacturing achievements: becoming GOTS certified.

“When I started working for White Lotus Home in 2006, it was good enough for customers to know that we were doing our best to be natural and organic, but now they look for proof beyond marketing, they need facts.

At White Lotus Home, integrity has been key, word of mouth is responsible for over 70% of our business and becoming GOTS was the best next step.”

In 2018, a whopping 85% of purpose-driven brands saw positive revenue growth, compared to the 42% of non-purpose driven brands who saw a DROP in revenue.

The numbers speak for themselves: positive changes might exist in the hands of conscious enterprises like White Lotus Home.

White Lotus Home is a sustainable bedding manufacturer selling mattresses, duvets, pillows, sheets, and more online and in-store at their New Jersey showroom location. They’re committed to producing clean, hypoallergenic environmental change, one mattress at a time.

ABC''s for a SAFER SLEEP!

Now that our children are going back to school, it may be a good time for the rest of us to learn more about Safer Sleep 😴.

Whether you are starting on your green living journey or have a Green MBA already, it is never too late to increase your awareness on the many factors traditional mattressespillows and bedding can cause our children’s health.

For this reason, we are giving away 2 FREE mattresses soon!

After 38 years, White Lotus Home has heard almost everything on issues humans worldwide are faced with, by using the wrong mattress and sleeping on unsafe bedrooms and environments. Every once in a while we do learn new cases where traditional or even worse, pretentious products affect human’s health.

Your bedding could be the main reason you are not resting, recovering or healing as best as possible. Please read this link for over 100 reasons why some of our own customers feel they need or needed to replace their mattresses and why we decided to give away 10 mattress absolutely free last year.

We do not mean to frighten you, but over and over we are asked to expand on what we have learned from all the many clients we have helped find a Safer Sleep, in close to 4 decades. The best time to change is now, please do not wait until something goes wrong, there are dozens of chemicals that unfortunately are legally allowed to be included in traditional mattresses, pillows, and bedding. It would be best to start from scratch, but we understand that is not always easily accessible.

However, know that changing the frequency you air out your bedding and how much sunlight you allow it to be exposed to, could help reduce or dissipate the odors and reactions these chemicals in standard bedding can be causing you.

Replacing your topper or pillow top with a new Organic or Green Topper and some new organic sheets can also help dramatically.

Here is how we are going to help you meet the ABCs of a Safer Sleep!

A. Code SaferSleep will give you 30% off all Organic MattressesPillowsToppersSheets, and Stows until the end of the month, this Saturday. Need it Now

B. For those that need a little more legroom: You can use our 50/50 program during this offer. Pay 50% now and the other 50% when its ready to ship (or until the end of November).

C. How to win one of the 2 FREE mattresses? All orders (no minimum) received from TODAY until the end of September will automatically be entered in this giveaway.

Please add a comment here, explaining why we should choose you.

  • The 1st winner will be chosen on September 30th, they will win a Twin Size Mattress of choice (Over a $1,300 Value).
  • The 2nd winner will be chosen on October 15th, and that family will win a Queen Size Mattress of choice (Over a $2,100 Value).

HIGHLAND PARK, NJ –  An increasing number of consumers are concerned about indoor air quality and toxic chemicals in mattress foams, glues, and fire retardant substances.

Conventional mattresses typically contain petrochemicals, fire retardants, plastics or vinyl. This chemical cocktail is linked to a host of health maladies, such as allergies and respiratory problems.  This is particularly so with crib mattresses.

Here are 10 reasons why you should sleep on an organic cotton filled mattress:

  1. Organic mattresses are made with materials found in nature, resources that encourage sustainable farming throughout the world: cotton grown without pesticides and wool from sheep raised on chemical free farms.
  2. Standard industry mattresses are made from man-made materials, most commonly derived from petrochemicals.

  3. Petrochemicals are derived from oil.

  4. Oil contains toxins.

  5. Oil is not a renewable resource.

  6. Oil is highly flammable.

  7. Studies have raised concerns about the long-term health effects petrochemical bedding materials may have on humans.

  8. If you sleep on a memory foam mattress, you're spending a third of your life sleeping on an oil-based product.

  9. All mattresses sold in the U.S. have to meet the U.S. Fire Code burn test. Mattresses need to be treated so they don't ignite. However, the chemicals used to treat mattresses to make them flame proof are highly suspect.

  10. Our skin absorbs toxins, our lungs breathe in airborne vapors.  Do you really trust the mattress industry when they tell you it's safe to sleep on their materials?

White Lotus Home, a manufacturer of natural and organic cotton mattresses, bedding and pillows,  handcrafts in the USA, a GOTS and USDA certified organic cotton filled mattress  This mattress is only wrapped with a natural layer of pure wool, sourced in the USA, to provide the fire retardant qualities your mattress requires.  Do you prefer no wool in your mattress?  No problem, just supply a prescription from your primary care physician, stating you require a chemical free mattress and this mattress can be handcrafted for you with no wool wrapping.  Do you prefer a firm mattress?  Then the Organic Cotton and Wool Boulder Mattress may be your choice.  It is handcrafted with extra layers of certified organic cotton and twice as many tuftings in comparison to White Lotus Homes’ standard mattresses to provide a firmer, supportive surface.  You also have the option of no wool, by providing your doctor's note.  This firm mattress is popular for those that have slept on mattresses while living in Japan and India.  Visit their online store for links to videos on how they manufacture in the USA.
